VOICES RISING 2026: Pre-Concert Celebration

Presented in partnership with the City of Burnaby Supported by TD as part of Vancouver Opera’s VOICES Free Concert Series Join us on the lawn at Deer Lake Park for an unforgettable summer evening of music, community, and cultural celebration. VOICES RISING 2026 is a special free pre-concert event that showcases the power and diversity of the human voice. This year’s program features two extraordinary musical ensembles: Tzo’kam Led by composer and traditional singer Russell Wallace, Tzo’kam is a family-based Stl’atl’imx group whose name means both “chickadee” and “visitors are coming.” With roots in the teachings of elder Flora Wallace, the group has shared their powerful and moving traditional songs across North America—from the Smithsonian Institution to the Vancouver Folk Music Festival—honouring language, land, and lineage. Sarabande Sarabande is a bold and expressive chamber choir from the Vancouver Bach Family of Choirs, under the direction of Shane Raman. Sarabande brings lush harmonies and dynamic energy to everything they sing—and for this special free outdoor performance, they’ll perform stunning choral arrangements of of well known pop songs alongside a selection of contemporary choral works that showcase the emotional power of ensemble singing. They’ll be joined by members of the Vancouver Opera Chorus—adding even more vocal brilliance to this moving musical experience.
