Patron Privacy Policy
Purpose of the Policy Vancouver Opera has developed a Patron Privacy Policy to ensure the privacy of our patrons’ personal information and to communicate that policy to patrons, staff, volunteers and business partners. Principles of the Policy Vancouver Opera recognizes the right of individuals to protect their personal information and the need of Vancouver Opera to collect, use or disclose personal information for the purpose of supporting its mission. Vancouver Opera also recognizes the right of individuals to gain access to the personal information gathered and to ask for their information to be corrected if they believe it is incorrect or incomplete. Accountability Vancouver Opera has designated the Chief Financial Officer as responsible for protection of patron information and for the enforcement of the Patron Privacy Policies. Inquiries about Vancouver Opera’s compliance with these policies can be directed to the Chief Financial Officer. Information Collected and Purposes Vancouver Opera may collect personal information in the course of supporting its mission and completing business transactions. Such information may include any information which may identify an individual’s contact information, preferences, interests, special needs, affiliations, professional and personal relationships, age or birth date, contacts between the patron and the company, and transaction history with the company. Every effort is made to maintain accurate information and to update it as new information is available. Information Use and Retention Vancouver Opera uses this information to support its mission, conduct business with patrons, communicate with patrons, anticipate and respond to patron preferences, develop new programs, and meet legal and regulatory requirements. Personal information will be used only for the purposes for which it was collected, or with the consent of the individual, or as required or allowed by law. Vancouver Opera does not trade or sell phone numbers or email addresses to any business or organization. We do not rent or sell our mailing lists to commercial businesses. Occasionally we trade our mailing lists with other arts and not-for-profit organizations under strict conditions as to confidentiality and use. We trade our mailing lists only with arts or not-for-profit organizations that adhere to a privacy policy substantially similar to our own. Personal information will be retained and disposed of in a manner which provides reasonable security against unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks. Personal information will be retained only so long as necessary to fulfill the uses stated above or as required by law. Vancouver Opera has operating procedures and policies in place regarding authorized access to personal information which reinforce these Patron Privacy Policies. Consent to Collect Information Consent for the collection, retention and use of personal patron information is implicit when patrons provide such information. Patrons have the right to provide only the personal information reasonably required to conduct their chosen transaction with Vancouver Opera. Limiting or Altering Consent of Information Patrons may at any time limit or alter their consent for Vancouver Opera to collect, use, or retain personal information. Patrons may also review and/or correct their personal information at any time. Changes will be made in a timely fashion.
